Former Pima County deputy gets 5-year prison term

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A former Pima County Sheriff's deputy has been sentenced to five years in prison for stealing money that came from drug smugglers and trying to distribute marijuana.

Federal prosecutors say Francisco Jimenez, of Tucson, also was ordered to serve a 3-year term of supervised release upon his release from prison and to pay $12,000 in restitution to the government.

He was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Tucson.

Prosecutors say Jimenez pleaded guilty in the case in June 2012.

He was charged with performing traffic stops in June 2010 and October 2010 on vehicles belonging to drug traffickers and stealing $4,000 from the glove compartment.

Jimenez also was accused in the theft of marijuana and drug money from a storage facility in Green Valley with an ex-deputy.
