Man found dead inside Mesa smoke shop

MESA, Ariz. -

Mesa Police are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead inside a smoke shop near University and Extension Road.

Mesa Police Det. Steve Berry says that officers received a 911 call about 1 p.m. from neighboring businesses about a disturbance in a smoke shop.

As officers arrived at the scene, they encountered a man leaving, holding a box. That same man had been seen by neighbors in the smoke shop.

Officers caught up with him at a neighboring apartment complex and took him into custody. He is currently being questioned by detectives and is considered a suspect.

A customer of the smoke shop told FOX 10 that the man who was found dead is the owner of the shop, but police have not confirmed that.

Det. Berry says the victim showed obvious signs of trauma and his death is being regarded as a homicide. His identity is not yet available.
