SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -
There was a surprise announcement Wednesday from Detroit's mayor. Dave Bing said he would not fight an emergency financial manager for the city.
"It is simply a fight that we cannot win at the eleventh hour in a 30 minute appeals hearing," said Bing. "Whether we like it or not, an emergency financial manager is coming to Detroit."
However, some members of city council aren't ready to give up yet.
"He's thrown up his hands and [said] that somebody else should come in and run this city. I don't believe that, and I never will," said City Council President Charles Pugh.
The council's next step is a hearing to appeal the appointment of an EFM.

And Sheila Cockrel, who spent 16 years on the city council before leaving to become a professor of politics at Wayne State University. She believes it's time to work with the state to solve the city's problems.

The MTA says limited service will resume this afternoon on Metro-North and Amtrak trains between New York and New Haven. Beginning with the 3:07 p.m. departure from Grand Central Terminal, Metro-North will operate about half of the regular eastbound PM peak service and regular hourly westbound service with the 4:23 PM train from New Haven. Repair work on tracks that were damaged in last week's train collision has progressed quickly, says the MTA.
