Work starting on repairing bridge on SR 89

Posted: Updated:

CHINO VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) -- The Arizona Department of Transportation says repair work is starting on Hell Canyon Bridge on State Route 89 north of Chino Valley and that motorists should be prepared for delays.

The state made temporary repairs to the bridge's damaged surface back in January but has hired a contractor to make more permanent repairs.

According to ADOT, the work involves removing and replacing deteriorating concrete from the deck, installing support beams, replacing other structural pieces and sealing the entire  deck.

ADOT says SR 89 will be narrowed to one lane for seven days a week, 24 hours a day until the project is complete.
