MTA fare hikes go into effect

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Public transportation in New York City got a little more expensive Sunday as the MTA raised fares. 

Subways and buses now cost $2.50 with a Metro Card or $2.75 for a single ride. The fare increased for Unlimited Metro Cards as well. 

The fare hikes includes a $1.00 surcharge when you but a new Metro Card. 

Commuters saw fares for using MTA bridges and tunnels as well.  

On Friday, commuters saw and increase on the Long Island Railroad and Metro-North Railroad tickets.
