Traffic Alert: Avoid This Stretch Of The 405

Posted: Updated:

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Construction work on a 2.4-mile stretch of the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway through the Sepulveda Pass will prompt a 55-hour lane reduction beginning tonight, and all northbound lanes will be closed for five hours each morning through Monday, officials said.

The work is part of the I-405 Sepulveda Pass Improvements Project. It will reduce the northbound side of the freeway from five lanes to two between the Montana Avenue and Getty Center offramps beginning at 10 p.m., according to Metro's Dave Sotero.

All northbound lanes will be closed between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. Saturday, between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. Sunday and from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, he said.

The lane reductions and full freeway closures will allow crews to realign lanes and pave the future carpool lane, Sotero said.

Crews will be shifting K-rails, grinding existing pavement, placing and compacting new pavement and striping lanes, he said.

"The HOV lane now under construction will ultimately extend 10 miles between the I-10 and U.S. 101 and complete the last remaining gap in the I-405 HOV lane network," he said.

All northbound lanes and ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, he said.
