Retired LAPD cop Bob Crupi was practically in tears as he told our legal analyst Robin Sax his story. Here's a guy that is still bitter at his treatment by the department years after he retired. For him, the Dorner manifesto brought it all back.
While of course disavowing Dorner's violent rampage he said that he understood what Dorner meant when he said he was trying to clear his name. Bob was brought up before the Board of Rights hearing 6 times. He was never terminated, though he did get suspensions for things such as being discourteous.
His story, like the others we‘ve told, is an important one as the lawyers like to say, it goes to a "pattern and practice" in the department of labeling those who report misconduct as snitches in essence, and giving them a jacket that follows them through their careers.
Why should we care if a Bob Crupi or a Bob Smith has a problem with the way he was treated by his employer? There are a couple reasons. First, we want to make sure no one is becoming the next Christopher Dorner who goes insane and creates an unimaginable reign of terror in killing four people and ruining the lives of their loved ones forever. Second, we have to have faith in the people with guns and handcuffs who can put you in jail.
If they don't treat their own right -- and we're not saying it happens all the time but it apparently happens enough -- if they don't treat their own right how can we expect them to treat the average person with dignity and respect?
