Man with fake mental illness, conning people out of cash

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A man in Lexington, Kentucky is pulling a fast one on many residents, pretending to have a mental disability in order to get people to donate money to him.

Police confronted Gary Thompson, 30, after the alleged scammer was caught in the act, according to LEX18. Thompson, who is wheelchair-bound, has been spotted at several Lexington-area shopping centers speaking with slurred speech.

Thompson majored in speech language pathology in college and has allegedly conned as much as $100,000-a-year from good-intentioned people with his skill.

Thompson says that although he's been busted for the scam, he won't give it up and will even move to another city to continue doing it.
