Porn Star James Deen Discusses 'Navigating Pornography'

Posted: Updated:

There was controversy when top porn star, James Deen, shows up for lecture at Pasadena College. He starred in "Atomic Vixen" and over a thousand other porn films, so he seemed the perfect lecturer for Navigating Pornography, a Humanities course at Pasadena Community College.

But when the public tried to get into the class, school officials said no. The right paperwork had not been filled out, said Juan Gutierrez, director of PR for the school..they had no arrangements for general public.

Deen did talk to a packed class of enthusiastic students for an hour.

Now, as to why students can take a course about the history of pornography, with budget cuts eliminating English and other mandatory classes?

"We teach more than the three R's, explained Professor Hugo Schwyzer, "college is about a rounded education, navigating in the real world, which does include pornography".

Deen, who actually lectures at quite a few schools, when he is not performing, seemed amused at the controversy, saying " everyone has a right to not watch pornography, or take the class, or not".

We tried to ask students not taking the class if they were upset about the lack of other courses: many said they'd rather take the porn class anyway. Most of those taking it seem to be Sociology, or Gender Study majors.

Making New York City more energy efficient

More than half the population of New York City rides public transportation to work. No other metropolis in this country even approaches that percentage or the MTA's total number of riders. For that reason, New York likely ranks as the most energy-efficient city in the nation. But what would it take to make the city even more energy-efficient or even self-sufficient?
