CAVE CREEK, Ariz. -

He's known as one of the best defensive shooting trainers in the world, and has trained military special ops teams.

Now he's training average people to defend themselves, and business recently has picked up.

The issue of guns is a hot topic of debate here in the valley, but I think most people agree if you're going to own a gun -- you should be trained on how to use it.

I personally had never even held a gun in my life before today, but I agreed to go through some of the basics with someone considered one of the best in the world.

"Really for me the mission is about helping the average person," says Rob Pincus. "What we do is help people learn how to intuitively use a firearm to defend themselves in a worst case scenario situation."

Rob Pincus, the owner of ICE Training Company, is known as one of the best defensive shooting instructors in the world.

"You want the gun very close to you so you're in control of the gun…"

He walked me through a training exercise at Cowtown Range in Cave Creek, a facility used to train the military and law enforcement.

"There's your target. What I want you to picture is that that door's just burst open. I want you to drive that gun all the way out, lean forward, don't lean backward."

I missed my first time, but within minutes…

[Gunshot] "Perfect, pull the gun back in."

The training picked up quickly. After that, we moved onto another exercise. This one, how to protect someone else. It included learning how to reload a gun a gun -- with one hand.

For someone who had never held a gun before, I was amazed at how quickly we got started. He was just handing it to me and having me shoot. I'd say I started shooting within maybe 5 minutes of us talking.

Rob Pincus is the founder of the Combat Focus Shooting Program, a program offered by Phoenix Firearms Training.

They're seeing a lot of interest from with training is women -- a lot of women are signing up for courses.
