FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - An Arizona congresswoman is asking the federal Department of Transportation to pay for repairing a damaged northern Arizona highway.

A stretch of US 89 south of Page was closed because of a buckle that tore apart the pavement.

Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick says the closure lengthens school bus rides by up to an hour, forces emergency first providers to make detours and affects deliveries of gasoline and other supplies.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports that more than 175 school students are affected.

The Arizona Department of Transportation hasn't released a cost estimate for repairs that would involve stabilizing hundreds of feet of roadway.
