Construction On The 405 Delayed Through Mid-2014

West Los Angeles, CA -

Bad news for drivers who frequent the stretch of 405 in busy West LA The billion dollar project was scheduled for completion in May 2013.  But a problematic stretch between Montana and Sunset week will push full completion to mid 2014.

That stretch entailed shifting Sepulveda Blvd east; doing that meant moving utility lines for water, gas, power and Chevron's oil line.  There were also right of way issues that are only now settled, according to Dave Sotero of Metro.

The good news is two thirds of the project is done right now.  Drivers are enjoying new on and off ramps for Wilshire Blvd, a wider Sunset Blvd bridge and improvements on the transition from the I-10 to 405.

The bad  news is the project still requires detours and lane closures. This weekend expect delays on the northbound 405 from Friday, March 1, 10 pm to 5 am, Monday, March 4.

Metro will reduce the freeway from five lanes to two to allow crews to re-stripe and improve paving between Montana to Getty Center.

It's a sight that can trigger dread. The low-battery message appears on your cell phone when there's no charger around.
