BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (KMSP) -
Officers with the Bloomington Police Department confirm that a vehicle belonging to a St. Paul woman who was reported missing was found at the Mall of America on Monday.
Police responded at about 5 a.m. after mall security contacted them to report that a vehicle which had been reported missing was parked on their property.
According to Cmdr. Vic Poyer, with the Bloomington Police Department, security guards located the car in the mall's West Ramp at about 4:55 a.m.
The discovery was made just hours after a "locate vehicle" message had been sent out on Sunday in connection with the disappearance of 30-year-old Kira Trevino, who works at the mall.
Investigators say the vehicle was unoccupied, and Trevino, of St. Paul, remains missing. She was reported missing after she failed to show up for work on Saturday.
Trevino's family told FOX 9 News that her cell phone and purse were discovered in the white 2010 Chevy Cobalt, which was carefully backed into a space in a part of the ramp where she didn't usually park. They added that it struck them as odd since Trevino was not a skilled parker.
Investigators say they will review parking lot surveillance video from outside the ramps; however, there were no cameras inside.
After St. Paul police officers finished processing the scene, the car was towed to the St. Paul Police Department's facility; however, Bloomington police will continue to help with the investigation.
The St. Paul Police Department is asking anyone with information about the vehicle or the missing person's case to call 651-266-5650.
