PHOENIX (AP) - The Department of Defense says a soldier from northeastern Arizona has been killed while serving in Afghanistan.

Pentagon officials say 34-year-old Staff Sgt. Jonathan D. Davis, of Kayenta, died last Friday while conducting combat operations in the Helmand province of Afghanistan.

Details weren't immediately announced Monday.

Davis was assigned to Headquarters Battalion, 32nd Georgian Liaison Team, Regimental Combat Team 7, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force out of Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer ordered that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Tuesday in honor of Davis.
