Starting March 1st, commuters will need to shell out some extra cash if they plan to ride the light rail.
According to a statement on the Valley Metro web site, "Currently your fare pays for about 25 percent of the cost to operate your trip. As the cost of operations rises, your fare begins to insufficiently support the current service level. The increase will generate about $6.5 million annually or support 3.2 percent of total operating costs for transit services."
One ride pass will be $2 -- that's 25 cents more than the current price. A full day pass will be $4 -- an increase of 50 cents.
The increase was voted on and approved in December.
