NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -
Many would-be subway riders were surprised and disappointed when they tried to catch a train Saturday.
Weekend track work has affected more than a dozen subway lines.
A lot of confused New Yorkers Saturday night and at the 68th Street station, there's no downtown service.
Riders are even asking us how to get where they need to go.
"Everything is express from 125th Street to Grand Central," said the subway booth clerk.
One confused rider is just one of many asking for directions. All weekend long, 16 subway lines will be experiencing major service disruptions.
"I just got here because the N and the R trains isn't going downtown, so I took a completely different route to this train and I just screamed -- you got to be kidding!"
The changes to service are a result of construction and maintenance. The MTA says the weekend work is essential to keeping the tracks in working order.
The affected lines: 1,2,3,4,5,6,A,E,F,G,J,N,Q,R and S.
"To hear there are no downtown trains… how I'm going to get home?" said one confused rider.
A good question many riders were asking at the 68th Street station. In order to go downtown, you had to go uptown -- way uptown.
Some riders took the maps to figure out another route, while others gave up and grabbed a cab.
"I'm really stumped on how I'm going to get downtown at this point," said one frustrated rider.
Riders tell us the signs don't help much either. There are so many service disruptions, we can't even mention them all.
So your best bet is to give yourself a lot of extra time.
"I'm not really sure about this. I'm trying to get Brooklyn, where am I going to go now?"
