NYPD, Apple cooperate to track down stolen i-devices

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Sales of Apple Inc. products are booming and so is the number of thefts in New York.

Mayor Bloomberg said the theft of Apple products actually created a slight spike in the overall crime rate in 2012, noting that 3,890 more Apple products were stolen that year than in 2011 -- about a 40 percent jump.

Detectives try to get the stolen device's tracking number from the victim. Then the NYPD teams with Apple to track the device's location.
