BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. -

Officials in Bartow County say they are investigating an apparent murder-suicide at Barnsley Gardens Resort on Thursday.

Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap says deputies responded to the resort on Barnsley Gardens Road at 2:40 a.m. after getting a report that a clerk had been shot. He says deputies discovered the man who shot the woman fled into some nearby woods.

Georgia State Patrol helicopter and troopers assisted deputies in locating the man, and he was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot, according to Millsap.

The woman was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead, say authorities.

Police have not released any names in connection with the incident.
