More rats have been sighted in New York City in the areas hardest hit by superstorm Sandy.

New York City Councilwoman Jessica Lappin says that there are rising numbers of complaints to the city's 311 line.

The Lower East Side had the most calls this fall and winter with 121, an increase of 21 percent from the previous year.

The report shows increases in Lower Manhattan, West Village, Greenpoint, Coney Island, Carroll Gardens, and Red Hook.

"The health commissioner is taking a serious look at this. It's a public health issue. I would love to start tomorrow, but realistically it could take a couple of  months," said Lappin.

A large inflatable Rubik’s Cube is sailing around New York City to celebrate the birthday of its inventor and the toy’s 40th anniversary. Hungarian professor Erno Rubik is credited with inventing the world’s best-selling toy in 1974.  The colorful, solid cube, twists and turns, but does not break or fall apart. To commemorate both days, a tugboat is towing the Cube around city landmarks.
