Picturesque snowy landscape surprises valley residents

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. -

Today's storm made for some breathtaking views of the mountains. The landscape of the snow on the Superstition Mountains was just incredible.

Coming in to Apache Junction on the 202, it looked just like a post card. Most of the people we talked to just loved it.

"For a while it was coming down really heavy, really thick, just huge white flakes. I had the 2-year-old standing in front of the window going wow," says Apache Junction resident Amy Nolan.

Amy Nolan and her family enjoy this postcard image from the front window of their Apache Junction home.

"You don't think about seeing stuff like that here, absolutely not, that's why I was so surprised. He was in the shower, when I came out I was like get out, you gotta see this."

"I think we've gotten more rain and precipitation this year than I've seen in 18 years," says Steve Nolan.

"It was freezing cold," says Elizabeth Nolan.

Elizabeth was at school when the snow started to fall.

"I was like wow it's hailing… I told them no its snow because it would melt so fast."

By late afternoon, more dark clouds and more rain. This rare appearance in the desert caused cars to pull over.

The view was so gorgeous residents just couldn't help but stop and take a picture.

"It looks beautiful, pretty, that's why I'm out taking some pictures," says Chad Anderson.

But not everyone loves this weather. Amy's husband says he moved to Arizona to get away from this stuff.

"I think I moved clear across the country from Vermont for I don't know what!" laughs Steve.
