WEST CHESTER, Pa. -

Borough officials in West Chester voted unanimously Wednesday night to approve quiet zones in residential areas around West Chester University.

FOX 29's Chris O'Connell reported Tuesday on the FOX 29 News at 10 p.m. that new street signs warning residents about noise restrictions from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. would soon be installed along nearly 60 West Chester streets.

Borough council member Jordan Norley tells FOX 29 the vote passed 7-0.

Those behind the proposal tell FOX 29 the idea was in response to a record number of noise and disorderly conduct citations written last year.

Officials say the problem isn't with the area bars themselves, rather when patrons leave those bars at closing time and filter through the streets.

One resident says she can hear patrons yelling and cursing at each other.

Now that the quiet zones were approved, signs are scheduled to be installed over the next couple of months.
