The Talker: Should Chicago bid for the Olympic games?

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
The U.S. Olympic Committee is asking about possibly getting back together with the city of Chicago.
Do we want to make a new bid for the games?
The U.S.O.C. is considering making a bid for the 2024 summer games. In a preliminary step, the committee sent a letter to 35 American cities to ask which ones are interested in hosting.
Chicago apparently was on the list only because it's one of America's largest cities and because the city has bid for the game before.
Chicago's failed bid for the 2016 games are both a reason to try and again and a reason not to. It was a stunning failure when the International Olympic Committee dropped Chicago from consideration in the very first round of voting--especially after raising a reported $72 million in private donations and lining up celebrity spokespeople, including president Obama who flew to Denmark to make a final pitch on our behalf.
The cost for a new bid would probably be lower since so much groundwork has already been laid and the bigger picture could be setting up better for a U.S. bid this time around.
During the 2016 bidding, the U.S.O.C and the I.O.C. were in a dispute over how to divvy up money raised from TV and marketing contracts. Many wonder of that alone might've killed Chicago's bid.
The money issue has now been settled and on its merits, Chicago's 2016 bid drew compliments. The head of NBC sports reportedly said it was the best bid by a U.S. city he had ever seen, but the bid never seemed to have an overwhelming amount of public support. That's probably one of the reasons Mayor Emanuel has ruled it out. His spokeswoman told FOX 32 News that Chicago will not bid for the 2024 games.
