TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A judge will decide whether an ex-Tucson defense attorney overbilled Pima County more than $75,000 for his work in a murder case.
Richard Parrish has been ordered to account for all of the fees he charged in the case and to show why he shouldn't have to reimburse the county the money he's been paid.
The director of the county's Office of Court Appointed Counsel claims only $1,500 of the $77,600 Parrish billed was legitimate.
Parrish's attorney says the billings were appropriate.
Parrish provided appellate work for 53-year-old Robert Moody, who was sentenced in 2010 to two life terms for the 1993 murders of 2 women.
The Arizona Daily Star (http://bit.ly/130XuwC) says Parrish now is retired. A status conference in the case is scheduled March 1 in county Superior Court.
