How much are you paying at the pump?

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -

Gas prices have increased daily for a month. Is there any end in sight?

It seems like just a week ago, we were rejoicing over $2.99 a gallon. That's a long lost memory because the prices have gone up quickly.

According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.73.  That's up 13 percent.

It's hitting a lot of us in the wallet since our pay checks are a little smaller now with tax hikes.

It's not just one thing that is causing prices to increase.  Crude oil prices are up 10 percent as many refineries are going down for maintenance.  OPEC, the biggest producer of oil, is dialing back their production since the United States is increasing its production.

We're always given tips to save gas, but Edmunds.com put those tips to the test:

  • Lower speeds save gas: Their test says yes, it's true. You will save gas driving the speed limit.
  • Use cruise control and save gas: Edmunds says it is a surprising effective way to save fuel.
  • Check tire pressure: They found no reasonable savings.
