Dropoff boxes take nearly a million pills off streets

Posted: Updated:
DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -

A father's love for his son has turned into his own personal war on drugs and it appears he's winning. Lance Dyar started out on a small mission which has quickly turned into a very successful way to get drugs out of the wrong hands.

He started the program after his 14-year-old son, Dakota, died from using synthetic marijuana. The program has taken almost a million pills off metro Atlanta streets by use of drug dropoff boxes.

The drugs recovered from the boxes wil now either be burned or crushed.

Drug dropoff boxes can be found at the following locations:

- Haralson County Sheriff's Office
- Buchanan Police Department
- Tallapoosa Police Department
- Villa Rica Police Department
- Bremen Police Department
- Douglas County Sheriff's Office
- Carroll County Sheriff's Office
- Coweta County Sheriff's Office

The following locations are expected to be added this month:

Sandy Springs Police Department
- Acworth Police Department
- Polk County Sheriff's Office
- Floyd County Sheriff's Office
- Paulding County Sheriff's Office

Three more boxes are expected just out of state and another 662 agencies across the country have requests for them.
