Going viral: The Harlem Shake

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -

Everyone is doing the Harlem Shake. It's the latest social media trend that's going viral.

The Harlem Shake launched just last week, but our very own Diamondbacks made history again by being the first MLB team to do it.

It's a social media phenomenon. The latest Twitter trend, the Harlem Shake, is spreading like fire throughout the cyber world.

In the Harlem Shake, a song with a techno beat is playing. One person is dancing in an ordinary room where no on pays the dancer any attention, then suddenly and spontaneously, an entire group of people is doing the Harlem Shake.

Search Harlem Shake on Twitter and it's probably trending.

There's a Harlem Shake video made in a high school, a dorm room and even in the Kansas University locker room.

"We actually got called out by a huge company, will Dbacks be first team to do it, I bet they will," said Derrick Hall, Arizona Diamondbacks President and CEO.

The DBbacks are always rising to the occasion, and were the first MLB team to Harlem Shake.

"I didn't even know what a Harlem Shake was," said Hall.

Their video is receiving thousands of views in just a few days.

The guy out front in the video is Hall himself. He started the Harlem Shake at a team practice.

"Each morning the players stretch on a agility field, fans were waiting for players," said Hall.

Hall admits being nervous about asking the players to jump on board.

"I'm starting to panic, I can't do this, and I look over, JJ Putz goes, 'Is this the Harlem Shake? This is awesome.' And all the players were in," said Hall.
