SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Forecasters have issued a flood warning along a portion of the Ogeechee River in southeast Georgia.

The National Weather Service said Saturday the river was less than a foot below its flood stage of 9 feet near Eden, a small town about 22 miles northwest of Savannah.

The weather service says the river level is expected to exceed flood stage by Sunday morning and keep rising into next week, possibly to more than 11 feet by Thursday morning.

The Chatham County Emergency Management Agency says that while the Ogeechee is expected to overflow its banks, flooding is expected to be minor even at the predicted 11 feet.

The river is swollen after record rainfall last week dumped more than 4 inches of rain in Savannah and surrounding Chatham County.
