MESA, Ariz. -

Police say a woman was arrested after she refused to get out of the middle of Country Club Way and assaulted an officer on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers found 22-year-old Christine Carlos and another person having a heated argument near Ray and Price Roads.

When they tried to talk to Carlos, Mesa police say she ran into the middle of the road and stood in oncoming traffic. Vehicles in the road had to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting her.

Detectives commanded Carlos to get out of the roadway but she ignored them and laid down in the road.

Eventually, detectives had to physically remove Carlos and while they were trying to carry her out of the road, she allegedly kicked an officer several times in the face and upper body.

Carlos was booked on charges of aggravated assault on law enforcement, failure to comply with a police officer and impeding the flow of traffic.
