LAPD's Chief
Charlie Beck announced Tuesday, Special Assistant for Constitutional Policing
Gerald Chaleff was already reviewing Christopher Dorner's termination case. Because
this has never been done, there's no set process.
Chief Beck also answered critics
who questioned the value of an internal review. His response, Chaleff
working with the Inspector General and LA Police Commission, will be able to
re-interview witnesses if necessary. An external reviewer couldn't do the
same.
What's not clear is what happens if
the review concludes the original judgment was wrong. If it turns out,
Chris Dorner wasn't lying when he reported his training officer kicked a
suspect, that would mean his training officer did lie. Would that mean
reprecussions for her?
