ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Meet Chris P. Bacon.
He's a special piglet who was born without the use of his hind legs, but gets along just fine thanks to a wheelchair his human made for him.
Bacon has also become an Internet sensation. His owner, Dr. Len Lucero, first posted a video on YouTube for friends and family to see him, and now the clip has gone viral. Many are calling the piglet an inspiration.
"It's gone to his head," said Lucero. "He turns his nose at me all the time. He's a character."
Literally.
Bacon is named after a character in a video game.
Lucero adopted him after a client drop him off at the Eastside Veterinary Hospital in Clermont because she couldn't care for him.
First, Lucero and his son worked on getting Bacon up and moving.
"A one pound pig!" said Lucero. "You have to get creative because they don't make those so I used K'nex toys."
Bacon's now pretty good at using his front legs to hop around, as well.
But two weeks ago, back before Bacon was easily mobile, Lucero posted the six minute clip on YouTube for his sister to check out.
"I called my sister who lives in Colorado, and said you have to see my piggy!" said Lucero. "She looked it up, and then all of a sudden everybody saw it. She must have had a lot of friends."
Nearly 475,000 people worldwide have viewed the clip. The video even helped Bacon get a new wheelchair. The now five pound piglet outgrew the first two chairs. A worker at HandicappedPets.Com donated a real chair.
"I showed the video to one of the workers, Lisa Marie Mulkern, and she just fell in love with him," said Lucero. "She said, No! I'm giving you this cart!"
Along with a little public relations help.
Bacon has a Facebook page, and several other social media accounts.
"Twitter and Pinterest!" said Lucero. "And I don't know how to access any of them."
Lucero clearly has to work on his social networking skills. Meantime, his family is glad Lucero has brought home this little Bacon.
"I get home, and my daughter, who has never greeted me, runs out to get Chris from the truck," said Lucero.
