President Barack Obama announced plans to withdraw more troops from Afghanistan and take steps to boost the fragile U.S. economy as he delivered a closely watched State of the Union address Tuesday laying out his priorities for the year and for his newly begun second term in office.

Tara Dowdell, Democratic strategist; and Bill Spadea, Republican strategist analyzed the speech during GDNY on Wednesday.

"From the outset of the speech he talked about partnership and working with the Republicans. He offered proposals that Republicans have previously reported. I think he extended the olive branch," said Dowdell.

"He took a very strong position on immigration. When he talked about immigrants coming here and speaking English, the tepid applause from Democrats. I'm surprised he went there," said Spadea.
