NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

An elderly person was injured after an SUV jumped the curb at 49th and Fifth Avenue in Manhattan on Monday and crashed into the Saks Fifth Avenue store.

It is not clear why the driver lost control of the silver colored vehicle just before 11 a.m. and slammed into the building on the 5th Ave. side.

The pedestrian, who is 89, was seriously injured and taken from the scene by ambulance to Bellevue Hospital.

The driver of the SUV stayed at the scene, police said.

Damage to the store appeared to be minimal.

The SUV, which had an address in Charlotte, North Carolina, on the passenger side door, sustained damage on the left side, front end.
