PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona's Secretary of State is adjusting funding limits for candidates using Clean Elections money to run their campaigns.
Ken Bennett's office says the rise of about six percent will be in place for the 2014 election cycle. Participants qualify for public funding by gathering $5 contributions from eligible voters and agreeing to comply with spending and contribution limits.
Candidates for governor will be awarded $754,000 for the primary and $1.13 million for the general election. Secretary of State and Attorney General candidates can spend $195,000 in the primary and $293,000 in the general election. Candidates for Legislature get $15,000 for their primary races and $23,000 for the general election.
The money comes from the Citizens Clean Elections Commission created by voters in 1998. It collects money mainly from court surcharges.
