Mohave County considers fee for pawn shop tickets

Posted: Updated:

KINGMAN, Ariz. (AP) - The Mohave County Sheriff's Office says revenue from a proposed fee on all pawn shop tickets would cover the costs of participating in a national database geared toward recovering stolen property and tracking down suspects.

But pawn shop owners throughout the county aren't happy with the idea of another fee.

Many owners tell the Kingman Daily Miner (http://bit.ly/14NuZAG ) that they already have to pay a transaction fee for sharing information with local police departments, including names, addresses, phone numbers and fingerprints of those pawning items.

Jerry Homer of Pawn World says the fees get passed on to customers and that his customers don't have much money to begin with.

Mohave County's Board of Supervisors is planning a public hearing on the proposed $1 fee later this spring.
