PHOENIX -

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has approved a settlement offer for the family of an inmate who died in custody.

County supervisors approved a $550,000 payout for the family of Ernest "Marty" Atencio.

The suit claimed Atencio died after officers got physical with him -- then denied him necessary medial treatment.

The family initially asked for $20 million in the wrongful death suit.

It's not known whether or not the family will accept the offer.
