Ga. inmate found dead in detention center restroom

DALLAS, Ga. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at the Paulding County Detention Center.

Paulding County Sheriff's Cpl. Ashley Henson says 26-year-old Andrew Scott Pittman was found unconscious early Friday morning in a bathroom at the detention center in Dallas - about 30 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta.

Henson says Pittman had been incarcerated there since mid-November and was awaiting trial on drug and weapons-related charges, and for violating his probation.

Officials say Pittman's death does not appear to have stemmed from an altercation and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is performing an autopsy and toxicology.
