Hadiya Pendleton was the kind of girl who had a lot of friends. And many were unable to get into the funeral because there wasn't enough room.
Mourners lined up early Saturday morning at Greater Harvest Missionary Baptist church to say farewell to Hadiya Pendleton.
"I'll always honor her by telling everybody about her being a good friend. How she always did the right thing," said Lance Armstrong, a friend of Pendleton's.
The 15-year-old King College Prep Honor student was gunned down nearly two-weeks-ago after taking exams. The shooting happened in a park just blocks from President Obama's Kenwood home and a week after Pendleton and her majorette team attended the presidents inauguration.
Chicago police say the shooting was gang-related and they have no one in custody.
"All this nonsense has to stop--it has to stop you know. This mother is burying her 15-year-old daughter you know. Adults are living longer than the children…this is devastating," said Juanita Malone, a family friend.
First Lady Michelle Obama and other Washington, D.C., dignitaries attended the four hour service. They stayed for the entire service while dozens of grieving friends and classmates waited outside.
"I can't see her. I wanna see her and the people in there don't even know her and it's like what is your purpose for being here? We know her, we went to school with her and we can't even see her," said Tammie Spaggins, a friend of Pendleton's.
"I'm not really gonna get mad cuz I want her to rest in peace but it's just sad that we really didn't get our chance to say our last goodbye to her and I think Michelle pushed that cuz a lot of spectators came that didn't even know her," said friend Jalani Bunn.
Even Pendleton's sixth grade friend, Amari Malone, who recorded this anti-gang, anti gun video tape with her was turned away.
"I don't really want to say goodbye. I don't want to believe that she's actually gone," said Malone.
Pendleton was laid to rest at a cemetery in the south suburbs.
The reward for any information leading to an arrest in this case is at $40,000.
Friends and family say it was a long service and a tough day for them. They don't want to say goodbye so they're all wishing her eternal peace.
