PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona authorities say they've been alerted about the manhunt for a disgruntled former Los Angeles police officer wanted in a deadly shooting rampage.

Thousands of police officers throughout Southern California and neighboring states are searching for 33-year-old Christopher Dorner.

The hunt reportedly has spread to Arizona, Nevada and Mexico.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say an "attempt to locate" advisory went out to officers in the central Arizona and northern Arizona districts about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

DPS spokesman Bart Graves says the advisory gave a description of the vehicle Dorner may be driving.

Graves says the advisory went out to all DPS officers in the two Arizona districts that cover the Phoenix metropolitan area, Casa Grande, Flagstaff, Kingman, Prescott and Holbrook.

Dorner was a Naval Reserve unit commander for eight months in 2009 at a northern Nevada air base, about 70 miles east of Reno, and at a reserve center at Stead Airport north of Reno.

After November 2009, Dorner was assigned to a volunteer training unit at a Naval Reserve center in Los Angeles.

Dorner is suspected in the weekend slayings of two people in Orange County, Calif., and the shooting death early Thursday of a police officer in Riverside. He's suspected of launching a killing spree to punish those he blames for his 2008 dismissal from the LAPD.

Making New York City more energy efficient

More than half the population of New York City rides public transportation to work. No other metropolis in this country even approaches that percentage or the MTA's total number of riders. For that reason, New York likely ranks as the most energy-efficient city in the nation. But what would it take to make the city even more energy-efficient or even self-sufficient?
