Wearing skinny jeans can put men's fertility at risk

PHOENIX -

The rise of the skinny jean started in the music industry and was made popular by the hipster culture. But now, the average Joe wears them.

The skinny jean phenomenon first cropped up in the music industry. First punk rockers like Green Day, then pop stars like the Biebs, and boy bands like One Direction made them popular.

Now, the body hugging jean is worn by the masses. New York director Matt Acheson won't wear anything else.

"Any kind of cool store is full of them, some of them are way too tight and you can't really fit into them," says Acheson.

It's the skin tight jean doctor's say men should be concerned about.

"Fashion is good up until the point where you can't have kids," says Dr. Y Mark Hong.

Urologist Dr. Mark Hong says the skinny jean is not a good fashion choice for men who want to have children.

"When he comes in wearing something that tight, you have to be thinking what else could be making his guys not happy."

If your denim fits like a second skin -- men could be at risk for infertility and other serious infections.

"I like to breathe still down there," adds Acheson.

Acheson knows these health concerns and opts for a looser fitting skinny jean.

"I like to have some mystery… I just had a baby this year, so I think I'm ok!"

While that mystery but be gone for some men -- Acheson won't revert back to the classic or relaxed fit jean.

Skinny jeans can also cause tingling and nerve damage in men and women.
