New NYC website aims to help with college process

NEW YORK (AP) - New York City's public school system and its public university have a new resource to help students get to college and succeed once they get there.

It's a website that answers questions such as how to choose colleges and who qualifies for financial aid.

Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott said Wednesday that the web site is like having a personal adviser.

City University of New York Chancellor Matthew Goldstein calls it "an access window to collegiate opportunity."

The effort is part of a citywide college readiness initiative.

It's being funded through a $3 million grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
