NJ School's No-Cursing Pledge For Girls Causes Controversy

Posted: Updated:
NORTH ARLINGTON, N.J. -

Controversy is building around a no-cursing pledge taken by girls at a New Jersey Catholic high school.

School administrators in North Arlington are requesting that the female students at Queen of Peace High School take this month-long pledge.

While some herald the vow as a great idea – making the girls who are said to have the foulest language at the school quote act like ladies – others are questioning if the pledge may be a double-standard, excluding boys from promising not to swear.

The teacher who organized the campaign says while the males were not asked to join in on the pledge, they have been asked not to curse when girls are near them.

School officials hope the girls' behavior will rub off on the male students.
