Amy Is Determined To Live Life To The Fullest

While we all share some basic needs for things like food and shelter, some face each day with more specific needs and challenges.  Amy (2000) is among those that have amazingly made it through while facing more special needs and challenges than most.

Amy (2000) is developmentally delayed and diagnosed with profound mental retardation, cerebral palsy and scoliosis. In spite of all this, she has persevered through much and is determined to live life to her fullest capacity.

Because of her medical condition and developmental delays, Amy is unable to communicate verbally and is non-ambulatory. She can, however, walk while assisted and can feed herself with a little help. Amy particularly enjoys music and playing with toy instruments and this kind of musical expression is one way that Amy interacts with the world around her.

Children with such special needs as Amy's may not be able to engage with others in traditional ways and greatly benefit from family environments that are able to function "outside the box" as needed to provide for and support the growth of someone like Amy.

There is training and services available for families who are able to see a youth like Amy as part of their home and family.
