David Dinkins succeeded Ed Koch as mayor of New York City. The leaders knew each other well. Dinkins reflected on the colleague, competitor and friend he had in Koch. Koch died on Friday of heart failure at the age of 88.

"We didn't always agree but we agreed a lot of the times. Ed would always tell you what he felt. You may not agree with him but folks know that Koch would tell you what he felt," said Dinkins.
