Elgin burglary suspect linked to more crimes

Posted: Updated:
ELGIN, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

An Elgin man who was arrested in December after he allegedly got caught in the act of breaking into a police officer's townhouse in an effort to steal the officer's gun now has been charged with two more burglaries in the northwest suburb, police announced Friday.

Ryan Hukill, 21, was charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of possession of stolen property. Detectives said they searched Hukill's home after the first arrest and found items they believe were stolen during other home break-ins.

Police allege that a large plasma television had been stolen June 2012 during a burglary to a garage in the 500 block of Barn Swallow Way. Video gaming equipment, a digital camera, a watch and various other household items found in the home are believed to have been stolen November 2012 during a burglary in the 500 block of Red Tail Ridge.

A judge set Hukill's bail at $40,000 in each of the two new cases. He was already in the Kane County jail, unable to post a $75,000 bail set in the first case, authorities said.
