Remembering Phoenix news legend Bill Close

Friends, family and former co-workers gathered Saturday to pay tribute to the valley's most watched television news anchor, Bill Close.

Close died on Jan. 27, he was 91-years-old.

After an 18 year career at KOY radio in Phoenix, Close became Channel 10's anchor and news director in 1964.

In the next 29 years, Close would anchor alongside the first female anchor, Mary Jo West, would be held hostage at Channel 10 studios by a gunman and interview Ronald Reagan.

John Hook was the last person to interview Close in 2009. You can see the entire interview at 7:30 a.m. on FOX 10's Newsmaker Sunday on Feb. 3.
