GILBERT, Ariz. -

Police say a Gilbert father went after three teachers and the principal when they tried to stop him from taking his son off school grounds.

Police say Newley Broughton tried to pick up his son from Madison Elementary, near Baseline and Higley.

Teachers tried to stop him because there's a custody agreement which only allows him to pick up the boy on certain days.

Police say he shoved his son's kindergarten teacher to the ground, and pushed the principal and a 4th grade teacher.

He was later arrested at his home and the boy was returned to his mother.

Broughton is facing charges of aggravated assault and interference with an educational institution.
