PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a man has been arrested in an animal cruelty case in the town of Guadalupe, south of Phoenix.

Maricopa County Sheriff's officials said Friday that 47-year-old Francisco Valencia is being held on suspicion of failing to provide medical attention, failure to provide shelter and failure to provide food for two dogs.

Deputies responded to a report of suspected animal abuse on Valencia's property last month.

They found two dogs in bad shape and without food.

Authorities say Valencia no longer lived at the residence and allegedly was feeding the dogs every other day.

Sheriff's officials say both dogs needed emergency treatment.

They say 1 of the dogs won't regain use of his hind leg and will need the use of a cart to be mobile.
