Falling trees damage Decatur homes

Posted: Updated:

Several trees fell and damaged some homes in a Decatur neighborhood overnight Wednesday.

Resident said that they thought they had gotten through the severe weather without much damage when the trees fell.

"The rain had stopped but the wind was starting to gust, and I guess the ground was too wet and the roots couldn't hold," said Jeff Guthrie.

But the combination of saturated grounds, high winds, and old trees made for a huge mess.

Residents said that the wind knocked one tree into two homes and blew another tree into two other others.

One family whose home was damaged said that they stayed in a motel courtesy of the Red Cross. They returned on Thursday to collect some of their belongings.

While the clean-up will be a headache, folks said they were thankful everyone was OK.
