Delta flight stopped on Logan runway with brake issue

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – An Atlanta-bound Delta flight was grounded at Logan International Airport Thursday after sustaining what flight officials call "hot brakes."

Flight 2101, which had 143 passengers and six crew members, was scheduled to depart at 4:01 p.m. It was instead stopped on the runway and remained on the tarmac while crews tended to the airplane.

Video from SkyFox showed the plane was surrounded by fire trucks and was being sprayed. A large puddle of liquid could be seen under the plane.

A tweet by Massport said the passengers were bused back to the terminal "safely and calmly."

In a statement, Delta said the MD-90 aircraft had "an issue with one of its wheel brake mechanisms."

The statement said Delta technicians were examining the issue with airport officials, and passengers were being re-booked on different flights.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
