CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A man was wounded in a shooting outside his Near West Side home early Thursday.

The 33-year-old man was outside in the 1200 block of South Racine Avenue, also the block he lives on, about 2:45 a.m., according to police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.

The man told police that he was approached by a man who lifted his arm, gun in-hand, toward him and he then turned to go back inside, Kubiak said. The victim heard gunshots, felt pain, and realized he had been shot, according to police.

When he got inside a family member called 911 and he was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, with a gunshot wound to the upper thigh, police said. His condition was reported to be stable, police said.

The wounded man is reportedly a self-admitted street gang member, according to police.
